On January 9, 2000 was held the election of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The Central Election Commission based on the protocols of district election commissions identified that, on January 9 in the elections from registered 12 million 746 thousand 903 voters, 12 million 123 thousand 199 of them participated in elections.

The Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan, based on the protocols of district election commissions, found that 12 million and 746,903 voters, 12 million 123 thousand 199 voters, participated in the January 9 elections. This represents 95.10% of the total number of registered voters. 11 million 147,621 voters or 91.90% of the voters voted for Islam Karimov, a candidate from the National Democratic Party. Abdulhafiz Jalalov, a candidate for the People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, has 505,161 voters or 4.71% of the vote.

In accordance with article 35 of the Law on the Election of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan decided to elect Islam Abduganievich Karimov to the post of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
