The former Deputy Foreign Office minister of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Alan Duncan visited the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan on December 18.

During a conversation with the Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan M.Istamov, the guest was acquainted with made amendments and additions to the national legislation of the country aimed at further democratization of electoral process, improvement of the practice of preparation and conduct of elections. There was adopted a comprehensive legislative framework - the Electoral Code, which covers all election-related legal norms. During its development, electoral legislation of dozens of foreign countries, including the United Kingdom, was seriously studied.

According to the Code, the formation of a single electronic register of voters, as well as extensive opportunities for participation in elections for all citizens of our country abroad, facilitates the implementation of the principle "One voter - one choice".
Sir Alan Duncan said that elections should be viewed not only as a political event but also as a process that determines the country's future, guiding the flow of socio-economic reforms and ensuring freedom of expression.

Positive changes are being made in many spheres of different levels in Uzbekistan, which has embarked upon the path of a new, democratic phase of its development, and those changes are widely acknowledged abroad.

The elections were held in the UK a week ago. An important prerequisite for democracy is to conduct voting on the principles of freedom, openness and justice. Adherence to the principles of justice is also important in counting votes. Only then we can say that the elections were fair. Moreover, the active participation of young people in the elections determines their future.

Alan Duncan is expected to visit several regions of the country as an international observer.
