The Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Supreme Electoral Council of the Republic of Turkey held an event to sign the Memorandum of Cooperation on December 18, 2019.

Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan M.Abdusalomov noted that cooperation between our countries, based on principles of mutual respect and trust, brotherhood, strategic partnership, as well as the agreements reached during the meetings of the heads of the two states, is developing in all directions.

The elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and the local councils will be held on December 22 of this year following the generally recognized international election standards and the updated national electoral legislation plays an important role in this. In particular, the creation of an opportunity to vote for all citizens of Uzbekistan living abroad is one of the most important news in the national electoral system. Before, citizens of Uzbekistan that are officially registered at consular offices could participate at such political events and realized their constitutional rights. Currently, all citizens of Uzbekistan, temporarily or permanently residing abroad, can vote in fifty-five polling stations established in forty countries. Similar polling stations have also been opened in Turkey.

Chairman of the Supreme Electoral Council of the Republic of Turkey Sadi Guven said that people of Turkey are watching the great changes taking place in Uzbekistan with great interest, which has entered a new, democratic phase of its development. He expressed confidence that the development of all areas, the principles of openness, transparency and democracy will be reflected in the upcoming elections. The Oliy Majlis thanked the Uzbek side for its invitation to participate in the upcoming elections to the Legislative Chamber as an international observer.

The Memorandum signed between the supreme bodies of the two countries provides for further cooperation between the parties in such areas as the further improvement of the practice of preparation and conduct of elections, a widespread introduction of modern information technologies in an electoral process, and training of personnel.
