The Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan has received an appeal to consider sending representatives of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Tajikistan to participate in the elections to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Tajikistan on March 1, 2020, as part of CIS and SCO international observers. The elections will be attended by the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States - Executive Secretary S.N.Lebedev, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization V.I. Norov and Chairman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of the Republic of Tajikistan B. Khudoyorzoda.

In this regard, from February 26 to March 3, 2020, the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, including 3 representatives of the Central Election Commission and 1 representative of the Samarkand regional election commission as part of the observer group of the CIS, SCO missions and the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly left for the Republic of Tajikistan to observe the election process of deputies of the Milli Majlis.

Tajikistan held parliamentary elections on Sunday, March 1. 3.7 million (75%) Tajik voters took part in the parliamentary elections. In this parliamentary elections, 241 candidates from political parties competed for 63 seats. Preliminary election results were expected to be announced on March 2.

The first conclusion of the observers was that the preparations for the parliamentary elections in Tajikistan were at a high level. The elections were conducted in an open, transparent and democratic manner in accordance with international electoral standards, national electoral legislation and practice of Tajikistan. Equal conditions and opportunities were created for the participants of the election process.

For information: The People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan, the Agrarian Party of Tajikistan, the Party of Economic Reforms of Tajikistan, the Socialist Party of Tajikistan, the Communist Party of Tajikistan, the Democratic Party and the Social Democratic Party participated in the 2020 parliamentary elections. All seven political parties in the country held pre-election rallies 75 days before the election and nominated candidates.

Representatives of the Republic of Tajikistan regularly participate in the parliamentary and presidential elections in Uzbekistan as international observers: In the 2019 parliamentary elections, 10 Tajik observers directly observed the elections of deputies of the Parliament and local councils of the Republic of Uzbekistan. They visited several constituencies and polling stations and got acquainted with the conditions created for voters and the electoral legislation of Uzbekistan.
