Referendum precincts established in diplomatic missions and other representative offices of the Republic of Uzbekistan in foreign countries

On March 27, 2023, at a meeting of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the next in turn issues on the preparation and holding of the referendum of the Republic of Uzbekistan were discussed.

In accordance with Articles 16 and 18 of the Law “On Referendum of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, Article 16 of the Election Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Regulations on the Formation of Referendum Precincts and Precinct Referendum Commissions at Diplomatic Missions and Other Representative Offices of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Foreign Countries approved by Resolution No. 1178 of the Central Election Commission dated July 13, 2022, the Referendum Precincts at diplomatic missions and other representative offices of the Republic of Uzbekistan in foreign countries shall be established following the recommendation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Proceeding from the above-mentioned requirements of the Law, the Central Election Commission has decided to establish 55 referendum precincts at the diplomatic missions and other representative offices of the Republic of Uzbekistan in foreign countries, which were assigned to the 14th Tashkent city referendum district.

As is known, observers from other countries and international organizations, as well as representatives of the mass media, shall have the right to participate in all activities related to the preparation and holding of the referendum. They shall be accredited by the Central Election Commission.

The meeting decided, on the recommendation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to accredit observers from the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to participate in the referendum of the Republic of Uzbekistan on April 30, 2023.

The meeting also addressed the issue of accreditation of representatives of several local media.
